Organize It: How Organizing Your Home Can Help You Organize Your Life

Posted by David Adamson on

Admit it: your daily life can find itself in a bit of disarray. Getting organized isn’t easy—and staying organized? Yeah, it is even harder. Whether you’re trying to organize your home or life in general, there’s only one way to get everything on your to-do list done: you have to start.

Here, we want to talk about tips for organizing your life, and how starting with home organization can do wonders for your psyche.

Office Organization

Tip #1: Give yourself permission to let things go.

First and foremost, in order to have an organized life, you can’t live in the past. Give yourself permission to let things go—both physical possessions and mental emotions. Once you understand that throwing away something doesn’t mean it’s gone forever (you still have memories!), you’ll be able to start living more simply.

Tip #2: Store anything you don’t use daily.

What do you use on a daily basis? In your bathroom? In your kitchen? Yeah, probably not a whole lot. To eliminate clutter, put away anything you don’t use on a daily basis. Store it in bins in your closet or in drawers under your bed. With excess clutter out of the way, you can begin to organize the things you actually use every day—and you’ll feel instantly refreshed!

Tip #3: Plan time to organize around your schedule.

Organizing your home takes time. Don’t expect it to happen overnight. Understand that you have to continue living your life, even while you organize your home. Don’t cancel plans or focus too long on one project—take it slow. Remember, slow and steady wins the race!

Tip #4: Rely on a to-do list.

Are you the type of person who tries to memorize all of your upcoming events and to-do lists? Stop. Organizing your home (and your life) is easiest when you put pen to paper. Instead of trying to memorize all of your obligations, start writing everything down. Organizing your home is great, but organizing your mind? Excellent. Invest in a planner and rely on your to-do list—penciling in times to organize your home will keep you on task, too!

Tip #5: Take back your life.

Organizing your home, your schedule, and your thoughts can help you take back your life. Knowing all of your to-dos are located in one place (your planner!) and your home isn’t a disaster, will put your mind at ease. You’ll soon leave the beauty of a quiet mind.
